ECHO Care of the Elderly aims to build a virtual community of practice helping primary care providers expand their skills and build their capacity in the care of frail, complex aging individuals. June 16-17, 2020 at the Chestnut Conferene Centre, Toronto. Adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) have a right to healthcare that meets their specific health and developmental needs. As members of the health sector, we are actively exploring the nature and extent of the inequalities often faced by this marginalized group. To bolster these efforts, the International Association for the Scientific Study of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IASSIDD) Special Interest Research Group and Surrey Place are hosting 20/20 & Beyond, a two-day conference that will raise awareness, increase knowledge and connect policy and practice to improve the health of individuals with IDD.
This annual conference comes back to Canada after 11 years. It welcomes participation from a range of interested groups including researchers, public health professionals, policy-makers, disability service providers, health care professionals and advocates. To learn more or to register click here.
GeriPal (Geriatrics and Palliative care) is a forum for discourse, recent news and research, and freethinking commentary. The objectives are: 1) to create an online community of interdisciplinary providers interested in geriatrics or palliative care; 2) to provide an open forum for the exchange of ideas and disruptive commentary that changes clinical practice and health care policy; and 3) to change the world. They welcome the perspectives of generalists, specialists, gerontologists, palliative care clinicians, and anyone else interested in care of the elderly or palliative care. Join presenters Dr. Olga Theou and Dr. Mario Ulises Pérez-Zepeda as they review a standardized approach to constructing a Frailty Index to determine the frailty levels of middle-aged and older Canadians using data from the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA). They will present population-based normative frailty values defined using this new standardized frailty tool and explain how other researchers and clinicians can use this information.
